Why the Japanese Chin?
My parents raised show dogs until I was about 13 years old and I always enjoyed working with the puppies and going to the shows. In my twenties I acquired my first Afghan Hound which I showed, but she was more of a companion than a show dog. I showed several Afghans over the years but as I aged my back couldn't handle all the grooming that they required. My last Afghan passed at the age of 14 and I went 5 years without a dog. I wanted to get back into the sport of dog showing and remembered seeing the Japanese Chins. After researching the breed to be sure that is what I wanted I contacted the Japanese Chin Club of America and they but me in touch with a breeder. That breeder was Leanne Bertani whose kennel name is Kelaury. Leanne let me co-own a beautiful male she called Logo. Logo is now known as Lobo to us and he became an AKC champion at 12 months of age. I now have nine chins, 15 of which are AKC Champions and 4 AKC Grand Champions.
All my Chins are raised in my home, as this breed thrives on companionship. They are a loving, clean dog. Their coat is easy to care for, a good brushing once a week usually will keep them looking good.
